Chapter 7: Wyatt

Hope was going to get herself killed. She kept insisting on putting everyone else before herself. She couldn’t seem to grasp that she was important too.

I would sacrifice my life ten times over for her to get to finally live her life.

Her life was so full of tragedy. She deserved to live a life full of happiness and love. I wanted that more than anything for her. I was going to do whatever it took to get her that.

Even if it meant talking to Satan.

I went into the foyer and grabbed my leather jacket. I went to put it over my shoulders, when it vanished.

I sighed and turned to face Elizabeth, who was holding my jacket and glaring at me. “Elizabeth.”

“Where do you think you’re off to?”

“What are you, my mother?”

“No, if I were Mother, I would have already slapped you upside the head. Where are you going, Wyatt?”

“Nowhere, don’t worry about it.”

“But I am worried. You and Christian tend to do stupid things when it comes to the women you love.”

“I don’t love anyone.”

She laughed. “That’s hysterical. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you love anyone more than you love Hope. Wyatt, I’m not letting you leave until you tell me where you’re going.”

“She’s right,” Christian said from the banister above us. “We shouldn’t do anything without discussing it first. We should all be on the same page.”

“I’m on the page where we don’t let Kane hurt her. What about you, Chris?”

“Obviously.”

“No one is saying that we let Kane hurt Hope. I like her too. Probably not as much as you two, but enough to care about what happens to her.”

“Then back off,” I said.

“I also like you and Christian and I won’t let you do something stupid and risk your life. This family has suffered enough loss.”

“So has Hope.”

“Just tell me where you’re going.”

My nostrils flared as I looked down at my sister. She was so defiant. I should snap her neck and leave her here in the foyer.

“We have to have a plan,” Christian said. He folded his hands and looked serious. More serious than he usually looked, which was quite impressive. “Even if that plan includes an escape plan to get Hope out of here.”

“You heard her. She’s not going to go willingly.”

“We have to do what we have to do to keep her safe.”

I furrowed my eyebrows. Now that was surprising. He was all about free will and all that bull shit. He didn’t even like compelling people. Yet he was willing to force Hope to leave. “What are you going to do? Bound and gag her, drag her kicking and screaming? She’ll never forgive us.”

“At least she’d be alive.”

She would be. But at what cost. The life she was building here would be over. She would be forced once again to start over. Only this time it would be worse. She would be forced into hiding from Kane and his father. I wouldn’t allow it.

“No. Hope is right. Why should she have to run and leave her life behind? Kane’s got to go.
